Come Hell or High Water: A Flyball Story!

Posted by omgflyball on May 25, 2018 at 12:55 AM Comments comments (0)

We have a bit of a delayed recap of our latest tournament in Cap Pele, NB which kicked off the month of May! Thanks to FAME for the great hospitality and all the little extras they put into the weekend. Despite some of the challenges leading up to the tournament for our members impacted by flooding, we were able to get all of our team entries there (and back), and we had a lot of positives to take away from the weekend.

We welcomed a new flyball dog to our team, with feisty little Belinda debuting in her first tournament and earning her FD (20 pts), FDX (100 points) and FCDH (500 points) titles in her first weekend of racing! QL also captured her FDCH title, and green dogs Bella and Uber participated in their first tournament warm ups.

All of our teams saw some tight racing in their divisions. In Regular 1, Go Rogue (Luna, Axle, Ketchup, Nix & Thrill) had some ups and downs throughout the weekend but captured 2nd on both days. Open 1 saw Go Wild (Ryder, Flight, Slice, Spray & QL) place 1st on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday, and in Open 2 Go Big or Go Home (Belinda, Cocoa, Viv, Adie & Mira) placed 4th on Saturday and improved to 2nd on Sunday. We also had a combined OMG/PFT Vets team, Prepare to Go Nap (Milo & Tuk) which placed 2nd on Saturday on 3rd on Sunday.

We’d like to send our congratulations to PFT who set an impressive new region and club record, and to all our fellow competitors on their great successes as well. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again in Debert, NS this coming weekend!

Back in Action!

Racing season is upon us once again and OMG! kicked off the first tournament back after the break with one of our best-ever weekend results at the Spring Back Into Action tournament in Fredericton Junction!

Go Rogue, our Reg 1 team consisting of Luna, Axle, Ketchup, Nix and Thrill, placed a hard fought 1st on both Saturday and Sunday where placement came down to the 5th heat of the final race both times! Go Getters, our Reg 2 team of Ryder, Viv, Flight, Adie, Spray and QL, also placed 1st in their division both days going undefeated with lots of clean and consistent racing all weekend from all the dogs. Finally, Go Wild, which had Zedd, Milo, Pax, Slice, Cocoa and Fennec racing in a competitive Open 1, placed 1st on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday, always giving it their all and handling lineup shuffles flawlessly.

We also saw an added bonus to the weekend with Luna, Axle, Ketchup and Thrill setting a new club record of 15.727!

There were some new titles earned over the weekend as well. Viv got both her FDCH (500 pts) and FDCH-S (1000 pts), Cocoa also earned her FDCH-S, Ryder picked up his FDCH-G (2500 pts) and Spray was the big title earner of the weekend, getting his FG40K with a whopping 40,000 pts!

We’d like to send our thanks to Prepare for Takeoff for putting on a great tournament and congratulate them on setting their new club and region record as well. It’s going to be an exciting season of racing and we’re looking forward to hitting the mats again in Cap Pele, NB this weekend!

The OMG! crew had a great time racing in PEI last weekend! It was an amazing way to kick off the 2018 NAFA year before heading to the winter break! Thanks to Fast n FURious for hosting us once again and to Shari & Mary Beth who joined our OMG Furious team with Zephyr and Speedy. We’d also like to thank Jules, Carole Anne and the Maple Leaps team for all their help in the lanes as well!

Having 4 teams entered kept us busy, but we finished the weekend with some of our best results yet! Our new Regular 1 lineup of Luna, Axle, Ketchup and Thrill (with help from Flight) surpassed our expectations and finished 1st in their division both days, also setting a new club record of 15.832 in the process! The racing in this division just keeps getting faster and faster, with all clubs able to hit sub-16 times. We can’t wait to see what 2018 is going to bring!

All of our teams saw some great racing over the weekend. In Open 1, our Big Mutts and Furious teams traded off 1st place finishes Saturday and Sunday with some tight racing, and we were excited to be running in Regular 2 again with Holy Tuk, having started the season with a shortage of height dogs. We saw so many great things from ALL of our dogs this weekend and it was a really good way to cap off the year for us. We’re looking forward to turning our attention to training over the off season and continuing the progress we’ve made. Only 5 short months to go!

That's a Wrap!

A huge thanks to FAME for wrapping up the 2017 Region 10 racing season in fine fashion in Cap Pele! The extra little touches like the welcome bags and the hospitality/dessert table were truly appreciated. We'd also like to congratulate Prepare for Takeoff on their 2016-2017 Regional Championship win and to Kalip from Maple Leaps who did his first judging on the lanes!

We had a great weekend despite some frustrating box malfunctions that kept our boxloaders on their toes! A huge thanks to Patti and Stef for their quick re-loading skills. We are very proud of how all our dogs and teams performed over the weekend and we have lots of great things to build upon as we start to look ahead to next season. We saw some great things from our young dogs and the experienced racers on the team ran really well too.

We had 4 new titles this weekend from some of our young guns! Fennec & Axle both earned their FDCh-G with 2500 points, and Viv & Luna both got their FDX with 100 points.

We had a great weekend of flyball in Florenceville-Bristol to round out the month of August! Thanks to Carole Anne and Carleton County Flyball for hosting a great tournament and their wonderful hospitality, including a delicious post-racing corn boil.

We unfortunately had to pull our Regular 1 team from competition for the weekend, but thanks to the help of Deborah and Nyx from Mass Chaos Flyball we were able to run as a performance team in that division. We also had a couple of other friends join us – Monica Johnny and Barrington Brownie joined us from Ontario and brought along Bindi, Yahtzee, Party and Bryte to race with with us as well! With their help, Tuk & Roll and I Like Big Mutts pulled off first place in both Open 1 & 2 on Saturday!

We debuted two of our young green dogs this weekend, with Luna earning her FD and Viv earning hers too while racing with her Mom Yahtzee! QL also received her FDX title, and Tuk his FDCh-G. Another great moment was Axle officially making his debut as a height dog, running his own height for the first time in Regular 2.

Here are the official tournament results:

Saturday:

Slice & Dice (Ryder, Flight, Slice, Thrill, Nyx, Spray) – No placement Regular 1, Best Time 16.526

Tuk & Roll (Mira, Pax, Axle, QL, Party, Bryte) – 1st place Open 1, Best Time 17.386

I Like Big Mutts (Milo, Spray, Tuk, Cocoa, Yahtzee, Bindi) – 1st place Open 2, Best Time 18.941

We spent the first weekend of August in action in Bridgewater, NS for the annual Pawrates of the Atlantic Tournament. The Maple Leaps always host a great tournament and this year was no exception! Thanks to them for all their hard work and the wonderful extras throughout the weekend. We had a much smaller OMG crew than usual with only 5 team members making the trip, and we’d like to thank our friends from the Maple Leaps and FAME for helping us out all weekend as we couldn’t have done it without them! We’d also like to thank Jeannie & Buster and Brittany & Emery for running with us on Tuk & Roll.

We're really happy with how our dogs ran this weekend, especially considering the heat and humidity. There was tight racing in our two divisions and both of our teams managed to post some impressive times! Congratulations to our new title earners as well:

It’s always an exciting time hosting, and the tournament this past weekend was no exception! We’d like to thank everyone involved for helping to make our home tournament a success – from our judges, our head table, our amazing volunteers, our generous sponsors – it would not have been possible without your help!

There were lots of great accomplishments this weekend from Region 10 – 15 dogs earned new titles, Shazaam (FnF) was awarded the Secret Weapon Award, Capri (CC) earned the Judge’s Choice award and Ammo (ML) received the first Higgs Memorial Award. The OMG! pack had another solid weekend and saw a number of highlights. Our super steady Toller, Maverick, celebrated his last runs before heading off to his hard earned retirement! We can’t thank Steve and Mav enough for everything they’ve given to the team over the years and are sure going to miss him out on the lanes. We saw Thrill’s return back to racing after being sidelined from an injury last season, and he helped our Slice & Dice team set our best time we’ve had in 2 years with a 16.295! We also saw 6 new titles:

FD (20 pts) – QL & Cocoa
